Matt Collins started his career as a State Trooper working for the Arizona Department of Public Safety in southeast Arizona at the Arizona Mexico border. During his time as a police officer he graduated Suma Cum Laude from Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. As a police officer, Matt became specially trained as an investigator in vehicle collisions and impaired driving. While he developed as an investigator Matt began studying to apply for law school and was eventually accepted into the J. Reuben Clark School of Law at Brigham Young University. After graduating in 2019 Matt was admitted to practice law in the state of Arizona in all state and Arizona federal courts.
Matt’s main areas of practice include civil litigation, contractual law, bankruptcy, debt management, family law, wills, trusts, and estate planning. He is hoping, however, to expand his areas of practice as he establishes himself in the Arizona legal field and is always open to new areas of the law. During law school, he volunteered on a weekly basis at the Timpanogos Family Justice Center in Provo, Utah where he was exposed to a myriad of legal issues. In the summer of 2018 he spent a week at the South Texas Family Detention Center in Dilley, Texas working with the Dilley Pro Bono Project to ensure asylum seekers were afforded competent legal counsel as they prepared for their credible fear interviews. Matt was also a court rostered mediator during his final year at BYU Law School where he mediated various types of cases for the Utah 4th District Small Claims Courts.
While Matt is proud of his professional achievements he is most proud of his role as a husband and father and considers his greatest accomplishment to be surviving the energy storm that are his two children.
